Favlook – Lookfav Focus

New York Fashion Week  (NYFW),  s/s  2014  street wear sass

showcases sweatshirt glam.

No longer a wardrobe throwaway piece

the sweatshirt has fashion evolved from

work out to work it – wear.

World renown fashion designer, Yohji Yamamoto,

whose clothes represent his life philosophy:

fluidity,  movement,  ease,  mobility,  freedom

is the father of designer Limi Feu.

Limi Feu and Yohji Yamamoto

…

Limi Yamamoto, who designs under the name Limi Feu,

started her eponymous label in 2000 showcasing

during Tokyo Fashion Week.

In 2007, she presented her first show in Paris.

Her s/s  2013 collection is a comprehensive reflective of her oeuvre,

a blending of duality in aesthetics:

masculine/feminine

hard/soft

deconstruction/ traditional

….

Clearly, Ms. Feu is inspired by Yohji Yamamoto.

Her design definition rings reminiscent of her father:

a leaning towards somber colours

a predilection to black as a statement hue

masculine/feminine inventive

harmonious contradictions

oversizing

layering

…

Although she is her father’s daughter,

her design voice is loud and clear.

Hers is of a gritty, hard edge

street wear sass: an abundance of attitude.

And we’re back circa 1992, when grunge made its runway debut

The process of any artistic development is not linear –

a straight progression from one starting point to end,

but cyclical, a steady reflection on what came before.

For the s/s 1992 collection, the designer Marc Jacobs,

(Marc Jacobs, back in the day, 1992)

…

then the creative mind of the Perry Ellis label,

introduced grunge wear to the fashion world.

Grunge …

musicality of hard rock/punk, angst lyrics, dress of tattered thrift store finds,

emerged from the Pacific Northwest city of Seattle, Washington-

had in one season morphed from a

term of underground to that of mainstream.

It was not the first, nor would it be the last that

a music genre and a street style

served as muse for runway fashion.

Although the grunge-inspired collection received praise from the public

and in the press, Mr. Jacobs was fired from Perry Ellis …

No worries though … today he is the creative director of Luis Vuitton

and designs under his eponymous label – Marc Jacobs

and his diffusion line – Marc by Marc Jacobs …

as in  grunge wear … not too shabby, at all.
