The impression of home-grown Brazilian fashion, once solely synonymous with

revealing swimwear and beach style, is rapidly evolving to meet the challenges

presented from an influx of international high end designer labels.

Attracted by a booming local economy,  global giants such as:

Chanel, Missioni, Prada, Burberry, Gucci, Diane Von Furstenberg

have flexed their brand muscle on the Brazilian shopping landscape.

This invasion has sparked a creative upsurge of local talent

who have become forces of reckoning.

…

Brazilian fashion design has generated tremendous enthusiasm.

With not one, but two Fashion Weeks:

Sao Paulo Fashion Week and Fashion Rio,

and with a core of diverse, distinctive, dynamic designers

Brazil is hot and that’s not just the weather!

…

Alexandre Herchcovitch and Pedro Lourenco

are two of Brazil’s leading designers who are part of

the country’s high voltage fashion energy;

sizzling at home and abroad.

With homage to 80s style and the music of

Boy George and Culture Club,

Herchovitch’s RTW collection was filled with

plaids, patterns, colours and shine.

It was kooky, quirky, vibrant …  wearable fashion fun.

At just 22 years old, Lourenco is one of the fashion world’s

young, gifted, emerging talents.

His collection is precision perfect:

clean, crisp, with an almost military exactitude.

The collection also has a geometric component of asymmetry.

Juxtaposed, he presented a few flirty shift dresses to contrast.

The Victoria and Albert Museum, London is currently presenting an exhibition, which showcases remarkable objects of  relevance from the archives of world renown musician David Bowie:  hand-written sheets of music, set designs, instruments and  yes the costumes, the other worldly fashion, which set Mr. Bowie way apart from the rest … are all on display.
