As trees now slowly, gently shed their leaves

layering the ground with shades of

warm autumnal colours,

nature thus signals, with a chill in the air,

that colder weather is set to come.

…

The cooler clime prompts the advent

of one of my favourite fashion looks:

inter-seasonal style.

This summer-transition to-autumn dress

should mimic nature’s own dynamic

response to seasonal change:

rich deep colours, textural interest,

mixed fabrication, asymmetry

and gentle layering.

…

One designer of note

Consuelo Castiglioni

(founder and creative director of the

Italian fashion label Marni)

seems to know instinctively how to create clothing,

which accentuate an ease of change

from summer to autumn wear.

The inter-seasonal look is accomplished with

dress elements from each season incorporating:

colour, form, patterns, prints,

textures, innovation, artistry

all hallmarks signature to Marni designs.

…

In recognition of the label’s 20th anniversary

here’s a Marni look book-back

at a few autumn creations, which captures

the spirit of inter-seasonal style attire.

Inter-seasonal layering:

an inviting visual and tactile mixture

of textures, colours, asymmetry

and as akin to the

unexpectedness of atmospheric shifts:

the look is wonderfully unpredictable.

inter-season, inter-season attire, inter-seasonal dress, Inter-seasonal Dress: Bridge the Winter to Spring Divide, Jil Sander - s/s 2012, look book-back, winter attire, winter hats, winter wear, wool veiled beanie

Although officially, Spring is not far flung,

The Big Chill continues to blow through,

and with it the on-going fashion conundrum of

inter-seasonal dress:

how to accessorise against winter winds,

while anticipating spring splendour.

Take a quick look book-back at the Jil Sander collection, S/S 2012

…

Raf Simons, then the creative mind of the Jil Sander label, collaborated with

master milliner Stephen Jones on the accessory,

which was a runway ‘hats off”:

the fine knit wool veiled beanie.

…

True to the Jil Sander label aesthetic – the hat was simple, subtle, chic.

Consider accessorising for the current Big Chill moment with

a wool veiled beanie hat …  a la Jil Sander, S/S 2012.

And we’re back circa 1992, when grunge made its runway debut

The process of any artistic development is not linear –

a straight progression from one starting point to end,

but cyclical, a steady reflection on what came before.

For the s/s 1992 collection, the designer Marc Jacobs,

(Marc Jacobs, back in the day, 1992)

…

then the creative mind of the Perry Ellis label,

introduced grunge wear to the fashion world.

Grunge …

musicality of hard rock/punk, angst lyrics, dress of tattered thrift store finds,

emerged from the Pacific Northwest city of Seattle, Washington-

had in one season morphed from a

term of underground to that of mainstream.

It was not the first, nor would it be the last that

a music genre and a street style

served as muse for runway fashion.

Although the grunge-inspired collection received praise from the public

and in the press, Mr. Jacobs was fired from Perry Ellis …

No worries though … today he is the creative director of Luis Vuitton

and designs under his eponymous label – Marc Jacobs

and his diffusion line – Marc by Marc Jacobs …

as in  grunge wear … not too shabby, at all.

In 1966, Yves Saint Laurent (designer) created

Le Smoking, the tuxedo suit for women.

The introduction of Le Smoking on

the international fashion stage was electric.

It ushered in a new wave of androgynous dress:  minimalist, classic, perfection.
