Picture perfect accessorising is the “zwugy” visual

of spring/summer fashion 2016.

(zwu’ gy:  means on-point ; rhymes with mo’ vie)

…

The looks that have fashion radar registered are neck adornments.

Of noteworthy mention is the choker / scarf combo presented on the

Christian Dior spring/summer ’16 runway.

Take the fashion cue and make it your own!

Fashion-speak is a living language,

ever evolving to better describe

dress images presented

…

And the term is

maximalist

….

max ‘ i ‘ ma ‘  list

(adj. / n. depending on context)

1   Referenced from the book:

Brooklyn Street Style:  The No-Rules Guide to Fashion

by Anya Sacharow & Shawn Dahl, photographs by Sioux Nesi-

2    To describe the wearing of multiple pieces of a single jewellery type-

(rings, necklaces, bracelets)

of varying materials / designs with a style directive of

‘more is more and then some’ !

3   An emphasis on accessorising as key component of creating

a unique/personal fashion statement

4   For ladies and gents,  an added element of interest to an over-all look

Layering/stacking multiple pieces of jewellery is a style trend that ‘keeps giving’;

Accessories add the culminating elements to a well-coordinated look.

Sometimes a unique item shouts as the main feature

with clothing as quiet background-

creating a signature look, which centres on a signature piece.

Rings and things: Meet “narrative jewellery” designer, Tessa Metcalfe

Via her unusual jewellery pieces, designer Tessa Metcalfe

explores and creates a visual-impact story.

It is a tale set in the London metropolis.

It is one of grit, grime and city dwelling.

It is one of unexpected beauty found in a most peculiar subject:

the urban pigeon.

…

The London city pigeon has become a creature scorned.

Once a fixture in great abundance at landmark points-

such as famed Trafalgar Square,

strident measures have been enacted

to banish the pigeon from such historic sites.

…

(image from panoramio.com):

Pigeons once reigned over Trafalgar Square

…

Yet for native Londoner, Tessa Metcalfe

the feral pigeon is an object of fascination

and source of inspiration for creative output.

…

Promoted by her own study/work in  taxidermy,

Ms. Metclafe uses the feet of roadkill pigeons

as core element for her pieces.

The feet are cleaned, cast in silver or gold

then set with exquisite gemstones, gently held by the talons:

equally macabre, compelling and beautiful.

…

…

Ms. Metcalfe’s pieces have been showcased at London Fashion Week-

where I first viewed her work.

There is a beguiling quality to these pieces, which engenders

lingered examination and great appreciation.

Pearl of London ring

The ring is a signature piece of Ms. Metcalfe’s design narrative:

“Capturing the hidden beauty of the city it represents, the pigeon inhabitants protect precious pearls within their gold claws endlessly spinning them in their grasp. The cool smooth [freshwater] pearl stands out inside the gold cage of claws enclosing it. Playfully fitted onto pins the pearl can be turned at your fingertips. This ring encompasses everything I love about my hometown, looking through the dirt in the gutter, finding it holds the beauty of the city.”

(quote, Tessa Metacalfe)

…

Tessa Metcalfe earned a BA Honours degree in Illustration,

University of Brighton.

Her creations have been worn by pop divas Rita Ora and Pixie Lott.

The function of jewellery: attraction, attention and admiration

Betty Cooke, function of jewellery, jeweller, jewellery, modernist jeweller

“

In a practical sense,   function in jewellery has little application

or the safety pin would have taken care of everything long ago.

Actually,  the true function of jewellery is to appeal through

the age-old business of

attraction, attention and admiration.”
