With Alan Taylor and Bobby Abley,

the MAN menswear a/w 2014 design trio is completed  by

Craig Green –

(image from http://www.selectism.com):

Crane Visit Designer Craig Green at his London Studio

BA/MA graduate of prestigious Central Saint Martins College, London.

…

Always poised to push the boundaries out,  just that bit further

Green presented a collection, which seemed relatively subdued –

in light of his previous offerings.

…

Black was prevalent colour, which grounded the collection

 adding textural interest with fabrics/materials.

Juxta-posed were opulent, colourful, patterned pieces.

Leather body harness with floor length strips,

some with carrier elements –

was an edge factor.

…

The noted accessories:

hand-held bags with front pouch

brogue-like shoes – laced under double straps

were spot on sensational.

…

The design aesthetics were of Asian influences in silhouette and styling:

Chinese skull-caps, wide-rimmed shade hats

Garments were: loose, asymmetric, layered –

kindred spirit to the design philosophy of  Yohji Yamamoto.

The collection is clean, elegant, un-fussed.

Yohji Yamamoto

(image from vam.ac.uk):

is an unique voice in the fashion chorus –

consistent, eloquent, recognisable

…

His  Story

Three years after completing his studies in law,

Mr. Yamamoto made the radical decision to embark

on a career in fashion design –

attending the prestigious Bunka Fashion College, Tokyo.

He graduated in 1969;

 started his design career in 1977;

and presented his first womenswear collection

during Paris Fashion Week, 1981.

In 1984, he launched his menswear collection.

Currently, he designs for his  three labels:

Y’s –  the original line

Yohji Yamamoto  –   the higher priced pieces

Y-3  –  the collaboration with Adidas sports wear.

The dramatic career shift from law to design

has proven a successful course.

…

His  Design  Philosophy

Mr.  Yamamoto has remained true to his aesthetics of

black as signature hue, with minimal injection of colour.

Yet his is not a sombre oeuvre, but is curiously

joyful,  light,  graceful.

Emphasis is directed to the visual created by

movement of body and movement of clothes.

Inspired by native  Japanese attire and beautifully crafted

a  Yamamoto creation  is

loose

light

layered

asymmetric

…

Thirty years in design and

Mr. Yamamoto remains excited, energised by his work.

His enthusiasm is contagious,

for his daughter Limi Yamamoto

is too a designer, who creates under the name

Limi Feu.

asymmetric design, autumn/winter 2013, black - signature colour, comprehensive collection, knitwear, pastel colours, Yohji Yamamoto

Yohji Yamamoto

(image from sleek-mag.com):

is a master of his art.

His creations are beautifully crafted,

articulating quiet, ease, serenity.

His a/w 2013 collection was classic Yamamoto

drapery

asymmetry

intricacy

androgyny

tailoring

black as signature colour

quiet hues…

but with a sudden injection of warm pastel colours for the knitwear separates.

The collection is comprehensive in the selection of pieces offered.

Given the varied garments and silhouettes,

there is something to intrigue all:

trouser suiting

urban edge wear

knitwear

 full length

casual ease

hats of varied proportions

Certainly a collection, which  highlights Yamamoto’s design talents.

…

In describing his 2013  RTW autumn/winter pieces , Mr. Yamamoto stated,

“There was no real theme to the collection, I just wanted to make dresses,

to tailor and enjoy the value of clothing.”

It is evident that he did just that … thoroughly enjoyed the creative process

and in response the runway show audience

thoroughly enjoyed the finished product.
