Boots are a year-round footwear option;

 adding dimension to any season’s ensemble –

and ankle boots are decidedly, a versatile choice.

During the 2011 fashion season

Nicolas Ghesquiere, then creative director at Balenciaga showcased

ankle boots that seemed a melding of Doc Martens (thick soles),

black leather biker boots (detailed top)

and with … cut-outs.

These were boots with attitude and then some;

adding a distinct edginess to an overall look.
