Words to describe the a/w, 2013 – 2014
ready to wear collection of Japanese designer
Ritsuko Shirahama
(image from tokyo-mbfashionweek.com)
who in 1984 established her eponymous womenswear label.
…
Born in 1956, Ms. Shirahama read English and American Literature
at Seikei University, Japan.
She went on to study at Bandan Design Research Centre before
undertaking a career in fashion design –
a wonderfully eclectic academic background, which no doubt
influences and inspires her work.
…
Her latest collection showcases extravagant head wear,
which adds to the overall fanciful yet stylish presentation.
The hats are reminiscent of
the towering, oversize, red/white stripe creation worn by the
Dr. Seuss children’s book character Cat in the Hat.
