The paintings of the artist Jean-Honore Fragonard, 1732 -1806

could have held pride of place among the setting of

Meadham Kirchhoff, rococo-inspired, s/s 2013 runway presentation.

Fragonard’s famous painting, The Swing, is ripe with the opulence

and cheekiness, which characterised rococo works.

The story depicted in the painting:

Setting:  an ornate garden

Scene:  a young woman seated on a swing in mid-air,

being pushed by an elderly gentleman/husband (?),

a lover/admirer watches from the bushes, taking full advantage of the

view offered, under the woman’s raised skirts,

a rococo.
